Find out how to recruit employees the right way

Auto dialing software can help you with several aspects of recruiting, but you still need to start with the right people. So, if you’re wondering how to recruit employees that will thrive in any given organization, here’s where to begin.

1. Know what you want. A job description is only part of any job. Yes, there are skills and competencies that are necessary to perform a job. There are also soft skills and factors that translate to success. For example, if you’re hiring for a customer support role, you might look for someone friendly and warm, whereas an accounting role would require someone detailed and exact. Not that you don’t want a warm, friendly accountant or a detail-oriented customer support person, it’s just that some roles require certain innate characteristics.

2. Keep detailed records. This may be one of the most important parts of how to recruit employees. Why? If you’re fortunate, you’ll have several excellent candidates for any position. You want to ensure you keep your information updated and accurate. Over the course of several conversations, it becomes easier than we might think to mix up candidates. Detailed notes help eliminate this issue. To help, auto dialing software like Call Logic has built-in notes that come up when you pull up a candidates information to call them.

3. Stay in touch. Again, you may very well have multiple great candidates for a job opening. While you may not be able to hire everyone, you can stay in touch with them for future openings in similar roles. Of course, you want to ask permission to do so, but if they approve, put a few touchpoints into your calendar to get in touch. Even if you don’t have an opening for them, let them know you still have their resume on file, and that they are at the top of the list of people to reach out to as soon as something comes up.

4. Don’t recruit for jobs that don’t exist. Keeping detailed records and staying in touch with good candidates is not a reason to post or recruit for jobs that don’t exist just to gather resumes. Some companies and recruiters do this to stock up on potential candidates for future openings. While that may gain you some ground, it’s not a viable long-term strategy. For one thing, you’re spending time and money recruiting people, but since you aren’t actually hiring, your return on investment is negative. As bad as that is, high-quality job candidates will do research. They’ll see that your company continually recruits for openings. This makes it clear that either you don’t have an actual job, but are collecting resumes, or that you have a high turnover for that position, which does not present your company as one where people want to work.

5. Be ready to follow up. One aspect of how to recruit employees that cannot be overstated is the importance of follow-up. With candidates actively looking for jobs, you don’t have time to spare. There’s another company and another recruiter right behind you dialing the candidate’s number. That means you need to follow up as soon as possible. One easy way to do that is to use auto dialing software that gives you the option to send a follow-up email. Create your templates in advance, then when you talk to a candidate, you can fill in the details from your notes and send them a follow-up email the minute you hang up. You could even send it while you’re on the phone with them! Another option is to schedule a follow-up call or meeting while you are on the phone. Just don’t forget to plug that appointment into your calendar!

Recruiting can be a challenging field, but if you take some steps to streamline and hone your process, you’ll find it gets easier and better over time.
